SDOMA Election 2007: If you have paid your SDOMA dues for 2006, or are a retired physician, or resident and returned your 2006 membership application, you will find a copy of this newsletter enclosed with your ballot for the election of 2007 SDOMA officers. Please return your ballot by January 11, 2007 as, according to the SDOMA bylaws, we need a minimum number of ballots returned to make the election valid.
Your SDOMA CME Hours: A statement regarding your 2006 meeting attendance and CME hours reported will be available with the January 2007 newsletter.
Future meetings: For our January 2007 we will be hearing a lecture on Osteoporosis . In early 2007 we will finally be getting to the new "inhaled insulin." Additional topics are currently being negotiated.
Pain management CME requirements: We recently received the following by email regarding your CME requirements. This is provided for your information. For additional information contact Skip Rodenbush, Interactive Multimedia Artists, Inc., (760) 602-9165, srodenbush@imavideo.com, or visit the site mentioned in the body of the information below.
AB487 is a California law affecting approximately 80,000 physicians. It requires, as a condition of license renewal, that they complete 12 CME hours in Pain Management and the Appropriate Care of the Terminally and Dying. The deadline for compliance is December 31, 2006. According to information from the Medical Board 40,000 physicians have not yet complied.
In 2004, reasoning that live 2-day live pain conferences would not adequately serve the physician community population and anticipating a last minute crunch for compliance with AB487 as the deadline approached, we developed and produced a home study program featuring a panel of the world's top Pain Management educators discussing cases presented by UCSD attending physicians in a tumor board type environment (visit www.AB487.com) to sample the program). The program has received rave reviews (see attached evaluations). To date we have registered nearly 2000 physicians and issued over 1000 CME certifications all online.
Indications are there will be a mad dash for compliance before the end of the year with the only remaining option being home study. We have the best program available and are pulling out the stops to make the physician community aware of our simple and elegant solution to their compliance requirement. In addition to the DVD version we have arranged with Google Video to stream our entire 14 hour program.
